A new window will appear that has five tabs across the top. Click on the tab that is labeled userContent.css. Next copy the CSS code below and paste it into the userContent.css file, then click the Save button. #rh table[class=”metatable”]{display: none !important;}
What are Google ads ?
Probably, you might have listened to the Google ad-words or text ads ( one of the prominent revenue generator for all webmasters and bloggers). Google acts as a mediator between ad publishers (bloggers/webmasters...) and ad companies. Both of them have to register with Google. The publishers have to place those ads at any part of their webpages, when someone clicks on them, the publisher and Google company gets some money which is decided by the ad-company and Google company's agreement. So, Gmail places these ads at all its publishable webpages including Gmail. Google is the publisher of ads in Gmail. Thus it gets double benfit.
How to remove the ads ?
Ads can be removed in two ways, i) using extensions ii) modifying usercontent.css file
1. Adding extensions :
Works with : Firefox 1.5 - 2.0.0.*, click here to install this extension.
b) Stylish : Customize the look of the application and of websites with Stylish, a user styles manager. Stylish allows easy management of user styles. User styles empower your browsing experience by letting you fix ugly sites, customize the look of your browser or mail client, or just have fun. With an online repository at userstyles.org, you don't even need to know how to write styles yourself; just a couple clicks and the chosen style is applied. Stylish is to CSS what Greasemonkey is to JavaScript, and unlike other methods of using user styles, most styles take effect immediately.
Works with : Firefox 1.5 – 3.0a5, click here to install add-on.
c) Using Grease monkey script : Install grease monkey addon to your Firefox browser and click here to install the script that removes the ads from Gmail.
2. Modifying Usercontent.css file : Before we start modifying our userContent.css file, I would recommend that you install an extension named ChromeEdit that simplifies the process of modifying your Firefox configuration files. So before you enter the CSS code listed below, go and install this extension (note : you’ll need to restart your browser after installation, so you may want to bookmark this page).
#rh div[class=”c”] {display: none !important;}
Extra Tip : For installing the script in Opera, save the script somewhere on your HardDisk, say C:\\Program Files\\Opera\\Profile\\UserJs\\, or anywhere you like. After that go Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Content > Javascript Options in your Opera browser and click the choose button at the bottom of the window and select the directory where you saved the userscripts. Reload your webmail window and enjoy Ad free version of your favorite webmail service.
Note : Removing ads from Gmail is illegal and hence, if you use these scripts, do it at your own risk. Well, we all know that there is no risk, but still I have warned you
